The purpose of the bed base is to provide a stable platform for the mattress to be placed on. It sits in a frame within the bed frame, and the mattress then goes on top of the base.

The Sprung bed base is a 4" deep softwood frame with coned springs inside and polyester wadding over the springs, then totally upholstered in damask it then sits down inside the bed,which is invisible to the eye from the outside of the bed.

Sprung bases are more favourable to slatted bases as they fully distribute the weight of the mattress equally, where as on slats, pressure is placed on the wooden slats and doesn't support the mattress where the gaps are.
